Frequently Asked QuestionsService Times
What if I don't know very much about Christianity ?There are no entrance requirements or exams that you're expected to meet. This doesn't mean that we are not serious about learning, but we accept you right where you are. From there we want to give you every opportunity experience Jesus Christ and all about him. Back to TopWhat kind of clothes do people where to your church on Sunday ?Jesus said it is not what is on the outside that makes people clean, it is what is on the inside, meaning what is in our hearts. So people come in all kinds of clothes from shorts and sandals to suits and ties. We want you to come dressed how ever you are comfortable. Back to TopWhat opportunities are there for children ?Oakwood celebrates children in many ways, beginning with our commitment to providing the communities we serve with a premier and very affordable day care and pre-school that operates five days a week. During the week we have exciting ministries for elementary age boys and girls in our Cadets and GEMS programs. On Sunday mornings nursery is available; a Children's Church meets during the 2nd half of the morning service; and Sunday School for all ages is available from September through May at 11:00. Back to TopWhere can I find more information about your denominations ?The Christian Reformed Church just celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2007. The denomination's website provides a lot of information. Go to www.crcna.org . Back to TopWhat makes Oakwood different from other churches ?To a degree you will have to help us with this one. Some tell us that we are a warmer and friendlier place, though we are sure most churches are this way. Others like the way we focus on scripture. Some talk about how we focus on kids and families and that we are multi-generational. We are sure there are differences, but we leave this up to you to discover. Back to TopWhat does Oakwood want to become ?The easy answer is "everything God wants us to be." The hard part is determining what that is. We have prayed a lot about this and have discerned that we are called to become a Spirit filled, safe place where real people reach out, heal and grow together in Christ. Back to TopHow do I become a member ?Everyone who is interested in becoming a member of Oakwood Church first attends our six week new members class where they learn about Oakwood, our denomination, the basics of Christianity, and what is required and expected of Oakwood members. Next, you are interviewed by a group of elders and deacons (leaders) of the church. Finally, you are baptized if you haven't already been, and then you stand and express your faith and commitment to the church by answering a few short questions. It's really easy, but it is a very important process, because we take membership seriously. Back to TopWhen is my life going to be different ?If you're serious about you're commitment to Jesus Christ and you treat him as your Lord and Savior, your life will be different immediately. And it will continue to be different every day as you grow in your relationship with Jesus and your Father in heaven. Will joy and peace, kindness and gentleness and love immediately fill your heart 24/7 ? No, but you will have moments, and those moments will increase until you will be experiencing each in ways you never thought possible. Back to Top |
